President Xi on 12th Dec announced a series of new measures for China’s intended nationally determined contributions to tackling the global climate challenge at the virtual Climate Ambition Submit. The point is as follows:

First, Xi called on all parties to close ranks and make new advances in climate governance that features win-win cooperation. China welcomes all countries’ support for the Paris Agreement and their greater contribution to tackling climate change.

Second, following the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, all countries need to maximize actions in light of their respective national circumstances and capabilities. Especially that developed countries need to scale up support for developing counties in financing, technology and capacity building.

Third, Xi urged all parties to boost confidence and pursue a new approach to climate governance that highlights green recovery. It’s important to encourage green, low- carbon ways of life and production, and seek development opportunities and impetus from green development.

China plans to have 1200GW installed capacity of wind and solar power by 2030. By the end of the third quarter of 2020, the total installed capacity of wind and solar will reach 223GW and 240GW respectively. The figures suggest that at least 730GW of growth are needed over the next decade to reach the target of 1200GW. And solar is expected to become the main driving force of China’s energy growth.
